21/09/2012 Lanzarote (BG) - The Department of Transport has finalised a contract for the construction of a new bus shelter in Puerto del Carmen, with work to begin in the last quarter of this year. The Cabildo de Lanzarote has revealed the project has been awarded to Lanzagrava S.L. The budget for the project is €454,059 and it is expected to take up to six months to complete.
The project comprises of the construction of a waiting terminal, a booth suitable for selling tickets and magazines, two bathrooms and a storage unit to keep cleaning equipment. There will also be an area covered by a roof and sheltered from the weather with a capacity to hold 25 people.
The platforms will be identified by information panels complete with monitors in addition to LED lighting, and an electrical outlet where it will be possible to recharge hybrid, electric vehicles.
The waiting area is also set to be paved and the traffic lanes and sidewalks are set to be modified and improved. Outdoor benches and other street furniture are set to be located at the station as well.
The new bus stop will be located along the promenade of Puerto del Carmen, in front of the nursery where the roundabout connects Avenida Juan Carlos I with the Rambla Islas Canarias. The project will be funded by the European Union fund for peripheral regions.
