13/08/2012 Lanzarote (BG) - Lanzarote recorded an increase of 2.95% in tourist arrivals last month compared to July 2011, following five successive months of decline. It was the only Canary Island that registered an increase in tourist visitors during July.
Minister for Tourism of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Carmen Steinert, claimed it was a “very positive” sign to buck the trend of the decline in the international market, while revealing her satisfaction at being “the only island” (Canary Is.), that recorded an increase in tourist visitors.
Steinert later added that she hopes:”This positive trend can continue to rise during the month of August and the following months”. She also hopes other airlines will follow the lead of French airliner Talasso who are adding an additional flight to Lanzarote to their schedule for the month of August.
Slight increases were recorded in the number of tourists arriving from the UK and Germany while major airline companies Jet2 and AirBerlin, who both have agreements in place with the Tourism Board of Lanzarote, also registered a growth in performance consolidating the positive growth trend on the Island.
The Netherlands, who are responsible for sending the fourth highest amount of holiday makers to Lanzarote also recorded a notable increase in figures, unlike the Irish whose number of visitors to the Island was down 6%.
