The Minister revealed “Everything is going as planned, the project is both progressing well and on time. There are eight laborers working on the redevelopment of the property, which should be ready in early November”. She added that “electrical installations are being undertaken throughout the building as well as plumbing works and the waterproofing of the elevator shaft”.
She recalled that the works which began on August 2nd, consist of adapting the building to current regulations, both in terms of accessibility and security.
Upon the completion of this project further work will be carried out to repair other sections of the building that have become run down and the lights will also be replaced. Cabrera announced that “by the end of this year, the building, so important to the culture of the island, will be ready for the Ayuntamiento de Arrecife to award it a licence to re-open.”
The Department of Culture emphasized that they want to “keep the imprint César Manrique, gave the building” so it will be able to accommodate all kinds of exhibitions and contemporary art events in the future.
