28-8-2012 Lanzarote (BG) - This Friday marks the beginning of the Fiestas de Nuestra Señora de Los Remedios in Yaiza. A variety of events and ceremonies have been planned to entertain residents and tourists during the celebrations which run until the 9th of September.
In addition to the annual religious ceremonies and procession, the events programme is brimming with fun filled activities that are sure to delight everybody from sports fanatics to music lovers and even culinary enthusiasts, ensuring there is something to suit everybody’s taste! We have highlighted some of the main events that may be of interest to you below.
The celebration kicks off this Friday, the 31st of August, with the official opening of the fiestas by D. Francisco Padrón Viñas, in the Casa de la Cultura Benito Pérez Armas at 20.30h. Immediately after the opening ceremony is the unveiling of the “Costumbres y Tradiciones” exhibition, also in la Casa de La de la Cultura Benito Pérez Armas.
At 22.00h on Friday, the 31st of August, is Noche de Baile y Parrandas including performances from Raíces, El Golpito and El Geito, in the Plaza de Ntra. Sra. De los Remedios.
Saturday, the 1st of September is the date set for the traditional Romeria procession. The Romeria procession, in honour of Nuestra Señora de Los Remedios is scheduled to leave from the football ground at 19.00h with an offering of locally grown produce. Following the procession is the election of Maga Yaiza, Maga Infantil, Damas de Honor and Maga Mayor. The celebrations are expected to continue well into the night with performances from Parranda Janubio, Pal Porrrón and Gurfines Son los del Puerto in the Plaza Nuestra Señora de Los Remedios.
Sunday, 2nd of Spetember, marks the beginning of an action packed programme of events planned for the week kicking off with the challenging the K10 Yaiza Extreme endurance race at 10.00h,(more information on which can be found here), organised by the Concejalía de Deportes. Following the race football for singles and couples is at 18.00h in the football ground after which you can enjoy the theatre “Entre Amigos de Yaiza” with “La terraza del Abuelo” and “Ni una gota” in the Casa de la Cultura Benito Pérez Armas.
Some of the highlight events scheduled for the week include a Padel tournament in Canchas Municipales at 17.00h on Monday, the 3rd of September, entry is €10 per couple, the second phase of which will take place on Tuesday, again at 17.00h.
At 19.30h on Monday, the 3rd of September, food lovers with a sweet tooth will compete against each other in a dessert competition in the Casa de la Cultura Benito Pérez Armas. The competition is open to residents and their dessert must be ready for inspection half an hour before the competition begins. Following the dessert competition is Play Black Simpatíade Arrecife in the Plaza de Ntra. Sra. De Los Remedios at 21.00h.
21.00h on Tuesday, the 4th of September, sees Black Cómico Adultos de Ugain perform at the Plaza de Ntra. Sra. De Los Remedios.
On Wednesday, the 5th of August, there is a children’s cinema in the Casa de la Cultura Benito Pérez Armas at 17.00h, followed by the ‘Nuestra Señora de Los Remedios Football Tournament’, featuring C.D Tinajo, C.D Tahíce and U.S. Yaiza, at 20.30h in the Campo de Fútbol de Yaiza.
On Thursday, the 6th of September at 21.00h is Play-Back de la 3a del Municipo, in the Plaza de Ntra. Sra. De Los Remedios, followed by games in the patio del Cuartel Viejo.
On Friday, the 7th of September there are children’s games in the Plaza de Ntra. Sra. De Los Remedios at 17.00h. At 21.00h is the Agrupación Folklóica Rubicón Festival of 2012 in the Plaza de Ntra. Sra. De Los Remedios. Anyone attending is asked to dress in traditional costume. Groups performing include Melaao Boricua of Tenerife and Kuarta Potencia of Lanzarote.
Saturday, the 8th of August, is the main day of celebrations. The day begins with mass at 12.00h; at 19.00h is a religious ceremony with the participation of the Asociación Agrupación Vocal de Yaiza, followed by a procession in honour of the Virgen Señora de los Remedios. The municipal band of Yaiza will accompany the procession.
At 21.00h is a Wuropean Pop Festival featuring artists of different nationalities including the Balled Dance Pop group, admission is free and the event will take place in the Plaza La Alameda. Following the music there will be a firework display at 23.30h and to finish the night off at 01.30 is Verbena with Melao Boricua of Tenerife in the Plaza de Ntra. Sra. De Los Remedios.
On the the final day of the Fiestas, Sunday the 9th of September, will be a traditional barbecue, a water fiesta and entertainment from Kuarta Potencia in the Plaza de Ntra. Sra. De Los Remedios from 13.00h.
