10/08/2012 Lanzarote (BG) - Cabildo Vice President and Minister for Employment and European Affairs, Joaquín Caraballo, yesterday admitted that they had “made a mistake” by associating Rosana’s concert with, and using it to promote, the continued protests against the proposed oil exploration. He later insisted that “it was not their intention to overshadow and hamper the concert”.
Caraballo stressed that “although there had been no direct contact with Rosana herself, they had been in contact with her representatives” and based the action they’ve taken on these discussions. Caraballo was responding to statements made by Rosana herself during a press conference on Tuesday, at which she claimed at no stage had she discussed the issue with the Cabildo.
Rosana told that as she is a native of Lanzarote she is against the drilling, but made clear that her concert and public demonstrations are two separate things. During the press conference she revealed:”I would not be capable of telling people what to wear to a concert”.
In recent weeks the Cabildo has issued a number of statements to concert goes urging them to come dressed in white. Even the president of the Cabildo, Pedro San Ginés, wrote an article stating that Rosana herself had asked “those who are going to the concert to do so dressed in white”.
The concert takes place tonight (Friday, August 10th) at 22.00h at the Plaza de Las Naciones, Playa Los Pocillos in Puerto del Carmen.
