Lanzarote Tourist Resorts:
Tourist centres expand opening hours for Summer

The Centros de Arte, Cultura y Turismo (CACT) - the picture shows "Los jameos del Agua" - have extended their opening hours to cope with the busy summer period. Photo: Cabildo de Lanzarote

The Cueva de los Verdes, like the Los Jameos del Agua (above), are located inside the volcanic tunnel created by the eruption of La Corona Vulcano. It owes its name to the existence of an internal lake which constitutes a unique geological formation. It originates by filtration through the rock which lies below sea-level. El Mirador del Río is one of the most representative César Manrique´s architectural creations in Lanzarote. It is located high up on the Risco de Famara at an altitude of 474 metres, in the north of the Island. From here we can contemplate one of Lanzarote´s most spectacular views: the Archipiélago Chinijo Natural Reserve and the Famara Cliff. Picture: Turismo de Lanzarote

The Cactus Garden is a magnificent example of an integrated architectural intervention into the landscape. César Manrique created this audacious architectonic complex whilst maintaining the unshakeable pairing of art and nature that is so tangible in all of his spatial interventions.

It is located at the town of Guatiza, municipality of Teguise, in an agricultural environment characterized by extensive plantations of cactus dedicated to the cultivation of the "cochineal". Photo: Lanzarote37°/Susanne Bernard

The Montañas de Fuego (Fire Mountains) or Timanfaya form part of a broad area affected by volcanic eruptions that struck Lanzarote between 1730 and 1736, with subsequents eruptions in 1824. This long eruption preocess, one of the most significant and spectacular of the historic volcanism on Earth, drastically changed the morphology of the Island, leaving a quarter of it almost completely buried under a thick layer of lava and ash.
