This week features a number of fun filled and action packed events on the island, from punk, rock and folk concerts for music lovers to cycling and beach volleyball events for sports fanatics. Add these to beach parties and full moon parties and you'll find there is something to suit everybody!
Lanzarote events guide – August 20th to 27th
The weather is perfect, so no excuses for couch potatoes. Whether you want to party the night away or enjoy more relaxed activities during the day there are more than enough opportunities for you!
Tonight, Monday August 20th, fans of folk music can enjoy the folk group “Los Campesinos” at Casa del Miedo at Charco San Gines, Arrecife. The Casa del Miedo (House of Fear) is the Sociedad at Chraco, located directly beneath the main stage which was built for San Ginés, you can’t miss it! The music starts at 20.30h.
Those who prefer rock music should head to the rock festival at Recinto Ferial (next to the Cabildo, Arrecife) where they can hear acts such as Ciempies ni Cabeza, Maldito Zurdo, Sobrelamarcha and Game over. Music here kicks off at 21.00h.
On Tuesday, August 21st, Recinto Ferial is again the place to be for music lovers as Bazooka, Cadaver Depot, G-Noma and Blackened perform in the tent. Music again starts from 21.00.
Also on Tuesday there is more good news for folk music and dance followers as Guadarfia perform at Casa del Miedo at 21.30h.
Wednesday August 22nd, sees Lanzarote American punk rock group “Faktotum Lanzarote” play at the Festival of San Gines at 23.30h in the tent at the Recinto Feial, Arecife.
Also on Thursday, August 24rd, is “Girls Night with Mr. T” in the Secret Cinema of Cantina in Teguise, Calle Leon y Castilo. “Mr. T” is referring to actor John Travolta and on the Facebook page of Cantina you can vote for your favourite Travolta movie and one you want to be shown.
On Saturday, August 25th, DJ Ambulante is performing with "garage" and "ska" from 23.00h in the Bar L`Machine, Calle Tiburcioclose, to the Garan Hotel in Arrecife.
On Saturday, August 25th, Radio station ‘Europa FM’ is inviting you to the “Papagayo Good Day” event. Activities will run from 10.00h in the morning to 03.00h at night. The programme of events includes aerobics, zumba, dance lessons, beach volleyball. For only €5 they promise great music and delicious treats straight from the barbeque, drinks included.
Saturday, August 25th, also marks the day of the annual summer beachvolleyball tournament at Playa La Garita, Arrieta. The event kicks off at 10.00h.
Folk music and dance followers will be travelling to Orzola next weekend as they have two nights of music lined up. On Friday, August 24th, folk groups Los Conejeros and Kuarta Potencia are playing from 23.00h, while on Saturday, August 25th, the Orquesta Rika Banda play, along with Los Conejeros, again from 23.00h.
On Sunday, August 26th, Alex and Aga are inviting you to, and I quote “a hell of a party” on the beach of Famara. The party starts at 17.00h (arrive on time at 17.00 at they will know for sure your German!) with a selection of food from the BBQ as well as plenty of beer, wine and a salad buffet.
Before you head to sleep on the 31st of August why not head to the full moon party in chupadero, La Geria, behind the Rubicon Bodega, Calle Guardilama. The event begins at 22.00h and Barbara always puts together a great programme so expect a wonderful night with many familiar faces as the usual crowd gathers for the party.
All photography enthusiasts who wish to participate in the Bodega Bermejos photo competition are asked to submit their entries before the October 15th deadline. On the subject of photography, a compilation of the best photos in the “World Press photo 2012” competition are currently on view in an exhibition being held at the municipal Exhibition Salon in Calle Aquilino Fernandez, 26, Arrecife, from the 4th to the 24th of August. Entry to the exhibition is free of charge and the gallery is open between 10.00 and 13.00 and 18.00 to 21.00 Monday Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and from 10.00 until 13.00 on Thursdays and Saturdays. It is closed on Sunday. Why not head for dinner afterwards in Bar Andalucia (Calle Inspector Luis Martin 5, Mon-Sat 08.00-17.00, closed Sundays, phone: 686 608 269) where boss Chari cooks such amazing food at a low cost, always worth a visit if you find yourself bored in the capital!.
