10/02/2012 Lanzarote (KMC) - The annual Carnival celebrations commence tonight, with the islands capital Arrecife officially opening the month long season of parades, street parties, live music and much more.
The opening ceremony will take place in the Parque Ramirez Cerda on the seafront of Arrecife at 20.00 with Juan Medina.
The Children’s Carnival will take place on Sunday 12th and the main parade will be on Monday 20th February. The Burial of the Sardine, which is the closing ceremony, will take place on Wednesday 22nd February. The theme for the Arrecife carnival is the Viking World. There will also be carnival celebrations in Uga and Las Breñas, between 18th and 24th February and in San Bartolomé from 11th February until the 24th. In San Bartolomé the carnival theme is the Mayan World.
Carnival will then move on to the resort of Puerto Del Carmen, with the Children’s Carnival taking place on Thursday 23rd February at 18.00. The Grand Parade will be on Saturday 25th February at 17.00 on the Avenida de las Playas and the closing celebrations the day after, Sunday 26th February. The theme for carnival in Puerto Del Carmen will be the Wild West.
Next will be Teguise and Costa Teguise, with the Grand Parade taking place in Costa Teguise on Saturday 3rd March. Tinajo will also have its Grand Carnival Parade on Saturday 3rd March.
Playa Blanca will start its carnival on the Friday 9th March, with the parade on Saturday 10th March. The theme for Playa Blanca is Venice, the birthplace of the original carnival.
Last will be Haría and La Graciosa, in Haría celebrations will take place between the 8th and 11th March, and on La Graciosa between 16th and 18th March.
